Kidney disease - a common cause of death among Toy Poodles

Based on surveys, the main causes of death among Toy Poodles are old age and kidney disease. If kidney disease! If it affects a lot of people around the world, kidney disease is common in dogs like toy poodles.

The kidneys are organs that filter blood to maintain the balance of chemicals, removing waste products and eliminate urine. The kidneys also regulate blood pressure, regulate the production of body fluids and produce hormones thatstimulate production of red blood cells.

Because the kidneys perform several functions for the health of humans and animals alike, a malfunction of this organ can cause several problems. canine renal failure or renal disease occurs when the kidneys stop functioning properly and is unable to eliminate harmful waste from the bloodstream. Kidney disease can be acute or chronic. Acute renal failure is a sudden loss of kidney function that results from intoxication or external toxins. Moreover, chronic renal failure is a kidney disease that develops over a period of time.

The increased water consumption and increased urine production are the first clinical signs of renal failure in dogs. As the disease progresses, more signs can be seen. These include loss of appetite, depression, vomiting, diarrhea, bad breath and mouth ulcers.

To diagnose the disease and determine the blood and urine tests, asBUN> (BUN) and creatinine in the blood are necessary. To cure the disease, large amounts of intravenous fluids are given to cleanse the kidneys. This process, called diuresis, helps to stimulate the cells of the kidneys to work again. Other initial treatments include medications to control vomiting and diarrhea, management of electrolyte abnormalities in the blood and the treatment of anemia.

Diet and nutrition also plays an important role in the treatmentdisease. A low-protein, low in phosphorus and low sodium diet is recommended to help regulate or slow the progression of the disease. Whenever possible, give the diet that is specifically formulated for the needs of your dog. Food specifically formulated for dogs with kidney disease have a reduced amount of protein, minerals and salt.

Added advice to all dog owners, puppy proof your house before coming to Fido. Make sure household chemicals, including detergents and chlorine must be outsideto meet your dog. Regular examination is recommended especially in adult dogs to detect early kidney disease.
