Chemical blood tests - Basics

The doctor or hospital laboratory is divided into departments such as hematology, microbiology, blood banking, and Chemistry. This article describes the typical chemical tests your doctor may order.

Chemical tests can be ordered individually, such as glucose (blood sugar), or in groups called "special groups." different laboratories on different panels. In general, the panels will be offered.

Liver Panel Test for a variety of liver enzymes. If the liver isliver cells damaged or diseased release their enzymes. If it is elevated enzyme levels in the blood indicates liver damage or disease. This panel screens for hepatitis, blocked bile duct or liver. It usually consists of proteins, bilirubin and SGOT enzymes (also known as AST), SGPT (also known as ALT) and alkaline phosphatase.

René panel - detection of kidney disease or damage. It's BUN (blood urea nitrogen) and creatinineand electrolytes. The doctor says if the kidney is functioning properly.

cholesterol panel of triglycerides (also known as fats or lipids), cholesterol, and two types of cholesterol known as HDL and LDL. HDL is good cholesterol and LDL is bad cholesterol. " You must be fasting for this test.

electrolyte panel is composed of sodium (Na), chlorine (Cl), potassium (K), and carbon dioxide (CO2). Abnormal electrolyte levels can indicate a variety of problems suchdehydration or diseases such as Cushing's or Addison.

Heart of the panel. The sensory analysis of heart damage. When the heart (heart) tissue is damaged heart cells release their enzymes, increase blood levels of these enzymes. The enzymes are called CPK, SGOT (AST) and LDH.

Comprehensive metabolic panel. Several laboratories offer different panels. They may have 6 tests, tests of 12 or 20 tests. This would be testing the functionality of various organs such as kidneys, liver and heartthat covers the entire body. different laboratories have different names for this panel.

FBS mean fasting blood sugar, which is the same as glucose. This test is ordered separately, or a panel. Tests for diabetes.

ABG stands for blood gases. These tests are performed in venous blood. A balance is needed to separate the arterial blood, where a specially trained nurse, therapist, lab technician will go into an artery or a blood test .It is a tie specialized tests for blood pH and oxygen and carbon dioxide. Arterial blood pH of 7.38 to 7.42 normal. A high pH may indicate a hyperventilator.
